Jazz and classical pianist Carolina Calvache was one of the exceptional pianists selected to participate in the Mary Lou Williams Women in Jazz Emerging Artist Workshop in May 2011, as part of the 16th Annual Mary Lou Williams Women in Jazz Festival at The Kennedy Center in D.C. She is currently working on her first album of her original compositions.
Ms. Calvache began her piano studies at the age of six at the Conservatorio Antonio Maria Valencia in her native city, Cali, Colombia. Her keen interest in composition and jazz has brought her to the United States to pursue a career in jazz performance. She completed her master of music degree in jazz studies in 2010 from the University of North Texas where she was a jazz scholarship recipient. Ms. Calvache has taught piano to students of all ages in Cali, Colombia and Texas. As a teaching fellow at the University of North Texas, she taught Jazz Keyboard Fundamentals to undergraduate students as well as piano lab classes. She currently is teaching at the Hoboken School of Music in New Jersey.
In June 2013 Ms. Calvache has released her debut album "Sotareno" celebrating her Colombian roots with her musical specialty in contemporary jazz . For more information please visit http://www.carolinacalvache.com/.
