Prior to joining the piano faculty at Areté Music Academy, Elizabeth Weissman taught elementary band, adaptive music, and prekindergarten and kindergarten general music in addition to having her own private studio in Northern New York. In addition she was a teaching assistant with the New York Philharmonic’s Very Young People’s Concert series, a teacher for North Country Music Together©, and a counselor for Crane Youth Music and the New York State Summer School of the Arts Orchestral Studies program.
Ms. Weissman is a certified music educator K-12 and holds a master of arts degree in music education from Teachers College, Columbia University with a concentration in early childhood music education and a bachelor of music degree in bassoon performance from The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. In the summer of 2012, Ms. Weissman will receive her Level 1 Kodaly Certification from The Kodaly Institute at New York University. She is a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME formerly MENC).
In addition, Ms. Weissman is an active performer. She accompanies student soloists for music festivals and local choirs, along with subbing for accompanists for area festivals. As a bassoonist, she’s performed in the Orchestra of Northern New York, the Northern Symphonic Winds, and Chelsea Symphony, along with pit orchestras for local school musical productions. She was selected to be a Festival Artist for the Lake George Music Festival in August 2012.
Elizabeth Weissman is the K-8 General Music Teacher for the Greenburgh-Graham Union Free School in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY.
