Mezzo-soprano Erika Bourque, originally from Connecticut, recently joined Areté Music Academy’s Voice and Early Childhood Piano programs, where she will be teaching the Youth Vocal Ensemble as well as voice and piano private lessons. Ms. Bourque has been teaching since 2008 and has taught at various institutions, including the MARS Program at The Rectory School and the Westminster Choir College. She completed her master of music degree in voice pedagogy and performance from Westminster Choir College and bachelor of music degree in voice performance from University of Connecticut
As a concert soloist Ms. Bourque has sung with the West Jersey Chamber Music Society, the UConn Symphonic Orchestra, and Sinfonietta Nova of Princeton, to name a few. Recent concert performances include Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Sparrow Mass, Handel’s Pauken Mass, as well as the world premiere of The Sleepers by living composer Philip Rice. Ms. Bourque was a 2011 CoOPERAtive Fellow, a Resident Artist with the Martha Cardona Theatre of Brooklyn, and has received awards in competitions with Lakes Region Opera Company, Opera Theatre of Connecticut, and Westminster Choir College.
