Hailed an “exquisitely subtle pianist” by the New York Times, Ms. Iris Hsu, a native of California, is a prizewinner of the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, Pacific Musical Society Competition, and Ross McKee Piano Competition, among others, as well as a scholarship recipient of the Lime Kiln Foundation and California Bay Area Steinway Society. In past summers, she has been a participant in the Zephyr International Chamber Music Festival, Banff Centre Piano Master Class Program, Millennium International Piano Festival, and Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and made appearances in the United States, Canada, Italy, and Spain.
Ms. Hsu received her bachelor of music degree from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University under the tutelage of Boris Slutsky and master of music degree from The Juilliard School, where she studied with Dr. Matti Raekallio. Ms. Hsu is currently employed as a Teaching Fellow in the piano minor department at Juilliard.
Ms. Hsu believes that a loving environment and the discovery of the joys of making music is the key to developing a committed passion for lifelong learning and growing in any young person. It is her mission as a piano teacher at Areté Music Academy to help provide this foundation for her students.
