Pianist Jacob Sievers is an active teacher, chamber musician, soloist, and collaborator, working with composers and mixed-media artists throughout the country. As an interpreter of repertoire both new and old, Mr. Sievers is devoted to thoughtful, intellectual, yet soulful performances that bring life and meaning to the music. As a teacher, his philosophy of mindful practicing teaches students of all ages to think critically about music, build confidence in their own abilities, develop proper practice habits, and develop a lifelong love of the piano.
Recent performances include two recitals at The Firehouse Space in Brooklyn, one of which included a world premiere work written for Mr. Sievers. Other performance highlights include a concerto performance of Bartok’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Vanderbilt University Symphony Orchestra in Nashville, Tennessee and solo and chamber music recitals at the Southern Illinois Music Festival in Carbondale, IL. Mr. Sievers has also worked with Pulitzer Prize winning composer Yehudi Wyner and performed his Dances of Atonement at a “Composer in Residence” series concert at Vanderbilt University with Mr. Wyner in attendance.
Originally from Carterville, Illinois, Mr. Sievers holds a master of music degree from Manhattan School of Music where he studied with Daniel Epstein and Jeffery Cohen and a bachelor of music degree from Vanderbilt University where he was a student of Karen Ann Krieger.
