Musicianship, level 1-5
The weekly Musicianship classes are a core component of music education at Areté. We believe it is essential that our students, not only can they play their instruments or sing beautifully, can hear accurately, read fluently, and understand the fundamentals of music. The weekly group classes are designed to teach students, through a sequential curriculum, basic rhythms, scales, intervals, harmony, sight-singing, dictation, and simple composition.
Chamber Music
Instrumentalists with strong technical ability on their instruments have the opportunity to play and perform together with their peers in small ensembles. Piano, string, guitar, and wind students are grouped into duos, trios, quartets, and quintets, and are coached weekly by master teachers in a wide range of repertoire.
Students participating in chamber music are required to have strong sight reading skills and are expected to practice their parts before attending any rehearsal or coaching session.
Guitar Ensemble
Improve your guitar skill by playing in an ensemble! Like chamber music, guitar ensemble is coached weekly by master teachers in a wide range of repertoire.
Youth Vocal Ensemble
Age 8+
The Youth Vocal Ensemble is an introductory course to the technique and behaviors that develop a beautiful singing voice over the course of a lifetime. The singer is different from any other musician in that he or she must build his or her instrument and learn to use it well. This course emphasizes proper breathing and posture, diction, and musicality through fun and challenging exercises and beginner-level vocal repertoire. The semester concludes with a performance by the ensemble, with possible solos depending on participants' musical growth and individual comfort level.
