Cellist Jihwon H. Na received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Mannes school of music, where she recently completed her Professional Study Diploma, and was the recipient of a Merit Scholarship and the Goldsmith Foundation Award. A committed teacher, Jihwon has been on the faculty of the Park Conservatory, and Tone Academy of Music. When asked about her teaching goals, Ms. Jihwon states that:
“My teaching goal is to make students feel a sense of music appreciation. It is important to help the students enjoy music and appreciate it through the act of playing well. Hopefully, as they grow, music will remain a part of their life and they will feel that their life has been enriched by it.”
In addition to teaching Jihwon has had the opportunity to perform a variety of musical genres in many prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Merkin Concert Hall, Consulate-General of Poland NYC, Symphony Space among many others. She has played a prominent part in Ensemble 212, Secret Opera, Mannes American Composer Ensemble, Mannes Orchestra and Regina Opera. She is as an artist-in-residence at The Hollows, and has participated in masterclasses with renowned musicians including Matt Haimovitz, Timothy Eddy, Peter Wiley, Paul Katz, and Bonnie Hampton. Jihwon was also invited to take part in Habitat: Home NYC project performance, and had the privilege to perform in the Women Composers Festival in Hartford, Round Top Festival Institute and Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival with full scholarships. Jihwon’s other interests include photography, traveling, and nature.
