Flutist Lauren Scanio is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Music degree in classical flute performance at the Manhattan School of Music studying with Michael Parloff. She began her musical studies at the age of four on piano and started playing the flute at age nine.
In addition to Arete Academy, Ms. Scanio has taught privately for six years, working with beginner to advanced students. She was also a flute instructor at Washington Heights Expeditionary Learning School through Manhattan School of Music Outreach Program, and, since 2016, has been invited to be a Guest Clinician at Clarence Middle School in her hometown of Buffalo, NY.
Lauren is an avid performer throughout the tri-state area. Some of her most treasured experiences include serving as a member of the New York Youth Symphony under the baton of Joshua Gersen, and playing as a substitute player for the Montclair Orchestra and the Buffalo Philharmonic. As a soloist, she has performed multiple concerti, including two performances of the Chaminade’s Concertino for Flute and Orchestra with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Lowell Liebermann’s Flute Concerto with the Clarence Wind Ensemble, and Mozart’s Concerto in G Major with the Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra. She has played in world-renowned concert venues, such as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Kleinhans Music Hall.
