Pianist, Soyoung-Choe

Soyoung Choe is a professional pianist born in Seoul, Korea. She began her musical training as a pianist at the age of three. Ms. Choe debuted as a pianist at the Prodigy Concert at Kumho Art Hall in Seoul at age ten. Since then, she has won numerous competitions in Korea, Japan, and the U.S. including the first place in the Chopin Competition (Korea), second (without a first prize) in Beethoven Competition (Korea), and the bronze award in the Asia Chopin Competition (Japan). While studying in the U.S. Ms. Choe had won the 2nd prize at the East Coast Competition and performed at Lincoln Center as part of the winner's concert. Also, she received a special prize at the Vivo International Music Competition. In 2018, She won the Grand price, which is the first time that it has been awarded, and Best Ravel Performance Prize at the International Music Academy Competition in Italy.

Ms. Choe began teaching at Arete Academy in early 2016. After taking a year off, she rejoined the Arete faculty in 2018. She enjoys sharing her expertise and love of music with students of all ages and levels. Her passion for exploring music extends to recording activities. She released a CD with a soft jazz style improvisations of various Hymns, titled 'Praying in Hymns.' This summer, she finished recording a complete series of Beyer, piano music for children, sponsored by Music Chunchu.
